There are many benefits to becoming a full member of the Egypt Exploration Society, here are our top five reason to join:
1. Protect Egypt’s heritage
Unfortunately the rate of destruction at archaeological sites across Egypt is increasing and our teams are working harder than ever to recover ancient material and information before it is lost entirely. By joining you will be helping to protect Egypt’s heritage for the future. Read about what we are doing in the field at the moment here.
2. Keep up-to-date with Egyptological research
Through our biennial bulletin, Egyptian Archaeology, the Society publishes the latest global research in Egyptology. Our two annual journals, The Journal of Egyptian Archaeology and the Graeco-Roman Memoirs, provide access to scholarly articles and are among the foremost publications in the fields of Egyptology and papyrology. Full members receive two copies of Egyptian Archaeology each year. You could also add on JEA or GRM for a much reduced additional fee, as well as take advantage of discounts on all our other publications. Members can also add JEA-online to their subscription for access to all articles published in the JEA from 1914 to present.
3. Help us to maintain a permanent record of the past
The Lucy Gura Archive contains documentation from over a century of exploration and excavation in Egypt making it one of the most important Egyptological archives worldwide and is regularly consulted by researchers. Subscriptions and donations from members are crucial to the preservation and survival of these irreplaceable records and to increasing access to them.
4. Meet the experts
Our events put you into direct contact with the world’s leading specialists as they present their current research. Members benefit from reduced ticket prices for these events and are regularly invited for free lectures given at our London Office.
5. Gain access to a leading Egyptological library
With over 20,000 publications the Ricardo A Caminos Memorial Library is one of the leading Egyptological libraries in the UK. The library is open Monday-Friday 10:30-16:30, and members are welcome to use our research facilities and borrow up to three books at a time. Not in London? Contact the librarian for any requests you have and we can arrange for items to be shipped for a small fee.
