Writing for the JEA
Information about the JEA
Submitted manuscripts are subject to double-blind refereeing. Manuscripts preliminarily accepted on the basis of referees' recommendations are then revised by contributors for final submission. Accepted manuscripts are allocated to particular issues of the JEA dependent on the length of refereeing process, submission of final manuscript, and remaining availability of space in particular issues of the Journal; the decision lies with the editor. The editor will seek to include an accepted submission in the next volume in which space is available, but reserves the right to hold over an article to the following edition of the journal according to circumstance.
The JEA has no formal deadline for submission.
The JEA's main language is English, but it also accepts contributions in French and German, where deemed suitable.
Submitting to the JEA
The JEA only considers for publication articles and short communications that have been submitted through our online submission portal, Sage Track. You can also find helpful user guides for Sage Track here.
Please note that the JEA has changed its preferred transliteration font from Trlit_CG Times to the updated 2023 Trlit_CG Times font, which can be downloaded here. This change is in line with the 2023 decision of the IAE. You can read more information here: IAE's transliteration font change.
JEA Referencing Style
In 2022, the JEA amended its referencing style to a more user-friendly and accessible Harvard-style that will be in use from JEA 109 onwards. All articles must now be submitted in accordance to this style.
If you have any questions, please contact the Managing Editor, Dr Stephanie Boonstra.
Open Access
The JEA is committed to making research available as widely as possible. For details on 'gold' and 'green' OA, please refer to the guidelines of our publishing partner, SAGE Publishing.
