A Thousand Miles up the Nile
To celebrate the 2022 reprint of A Thousand Miles up the Nile by Amelia Edwards, a temporary display has been curated at the EES London Office exploring the life of Amelia Edwards and her journey into Egyptology.
Alongside a second edition of the work from the Society’s own Special Collections, visitors to the exhibition will also find other tomes that inspired Amelia’s fascination with Egypt and travel including John Gardner Wilkinson’s Manners and Customs of the Ancient Egyptians and a copy of Arabian Nights.
The 2022 reprint is now available for members to browse in the new Lending Library and a limited stock of the hardback is available to purchase from the Office. The exhibition is available to view during normal opening hours, Monday-Wednesday, 10:30-16:30 (check ahead in case of industrial action). No appointment is necessary to view the exhibition or to visit the Lending Library. We look forward to seeing you soon!
