Tomb of Queen Meresankh III, Giza
Meresankh III was the granddaughter of Khufu (of Great Pyramid fame) and wife of Khafre. This Fourth Dynasty decorated mastaba may not compete with her husband’s burial in size, but what it lacks in size is made up for in the stunning decoration. The delicate statues carved into the bedrock surrounded by painted scenes of daily life set this monument apart from the enormous, though relatively bare, pyramids of her male counterparts. Take a look to see how a queen of Egypt was buried over 4000 years ago!
