25 24 01 Bunbury_Challenges of Climate Change for Egypt’s Theban Mountain_Tomb of Tutmosis II

The Theban Mountain, near Luxor in Upper Egypt is, today, a desert but it contains thousands of traces of past human activity. In ancient times, people came into the desert to hunt, herd, bury their dead and to pray. The New Kingdom Research Foundation has recently discovered the original burial place of Tutmosis II, and noted that it was overwhelmed by flooding soon after he was interred. Contemporary climate change is again affecting the area and, from the past environment, we can anticipate future changes and mitigate their effects on the heritage.
